The Process

You care about your music and you want the absolute best for it. And of course, looking for a producer online can be a daunting task. There are thousands of them, and you likely have questions.

How many revisions do they offer? What will the timeline look like? Are they cool with texting, or will communication be strictly over email? Will I get to have an active role in the decision-making, or will they take the lead in the creative process? Will they want a cut of the royalties?

That’s exactly why I want to outline what working with me will look like. Click each step to read in depth about each phase of the process.

  • To get started, fill out my contact form. I will read through your project description, listen to any of your music and/or references you’ve sent me, and reply as soon as I can. From here, we will discuss your vision for the song and the overall sound you’re looking for. This part of the process is crucial to make sure the final product aligns with your vision. These initial discussions will be held over email, but for efficient communication, I like to move discussions to text afterwards.

If you already have a demo written, I will need a rough copy of the demo vocals recorded to a metronome. Having a rough cut of the vocals helps me flesh out the arrangement and chord progression.

To begin working on the song, you’ll need to send me the first half of the payment. The payment is split in two halves: half up front and half at the end, before the delivery of the final files. I accept payment via Paypal, Zelle. and Apple Pay.

  • After I have received the first half of payment, I will produce a demo and send it to you for review. It should take no longer than 7 days to get you the first version. This version will be rough around the edges, but the goal of it isn’t to be a fully fleshed out song. The goal is to show you my ideas so far and to make sure they are properly aligning with your vision.

At this stage, you will give me feedback about the overall direction of the song. If it’s too happy and bright for what you were thinking, I’ll make it darker. If it’s too pop and you wanted it a bit more rock, I’ll cut back on the cleanness and bring some edge to it. This part of the process is meant to be the most collaborative portion: I will take your feedback and make sure to incorporate it from the very beginning so that the final product turns out exactly how you envision.

Once we are both happy with the direction of the song, I will begin producing the rest of the song, fleshing out the arrangement and transitions, and of course, sending you versions for your feedback and review along the way. Once we are about 90% finished with the production, that is when I will send you an MP3 of what we have so far so that you can record the final vocals. You can either record them at a local studio or at home.

Once they’re ready, you’ll send the vocals to me via WeTransfer, Google Drive, or Dropbox, and I will begin the final mix, as well as touch up any production as needed. Once I have the first vocal mix ready, I will send that to you for your feedback. Once we’re nearing the end, I will also master the song so that you can get a good idea of how the final product will sound once all revisions are complete. Then, it’s just a couple more back-and-forths with revisions and final touches. Then boom! We have a finished song.

Speaking of revisions: you get unlimited revisions! But for reference, most of my projects are 100% complete between V6 and V12.

In most cases, this phase lasts roughly 2-4 weeks, sometimes more and sometimes less. It really depends on how quickly you can send feedback and how quickly you can get the vocals over to me.

  • Your vision is now a tangible product! To close off the project, you will need to complete the second half of payment. Once I have received it, I will send you four files:

Your Name - Song Title (Master).wav

Your Name - Song Title (Master).mp3

Your Name - Song Title (Acapella).wav

Your Name - Song Title (Instrumental).wav

If you would like a performance version, grouped stems, or the full set of stems, this can be provided for an additional fee. These files will be delivered within 3 days of receiving the final half of payment. All files will be sent via WeTransfer.
